Dogpile Tricks of the Trade
Dogpile is the smarter search engine! It makes searching easy, but there are a few tricks that can help you get your results even easier. Here's how:
Choose Your Terms Carefully
The words you enter in the search box will have the most direct impact on the results you receive. For that reason, we suggest that you use the most direct words you can. For example, if you're looking for information about Lassie, the collie TV celebrity (and one of Arfie's all time favorites), enter "Lassie TV show dog" or "Lassie the dog" and NOT "collies" or "dogs on TV".
Use Appropriate Spacing
Dogpile recognizes any spaces that you enter in the search box, so search with the correct spaces included. If you search "Dog toys" you will most likely receive a list of various chews, toys and other fun. Searching "dogtoys" will probably return similar results, but may also include a specific site (if there was a dogtoys.com), a band name, or any other exact match for dogtoys without a space.
Use Terms In the Most Literal Order
Simple enough, right? Enter "dog shows" and you're going to be getting results about various dog shows, clubs, recaps of past events, etc. Enter "show dogs" and you're going to get specific information about dog breeds, how to train a show dog, etc.
Refine Your Results
You can use Dogpile's "Are You Looking For" technology to refine your results. This feature automatically suggests new search terms based on words and phrases contained in the results. For example, if you searched for the term "insurance", Dogpile would suggest various insurance terms, like Home, Auto, Fire, Health, etc. By clicking on any of the links, you would then view the results for that specific search term.
Use Search Categories
If you're looking for a specific kind of result, use the category tabs located near the search box. Want pictures of dogs? Search images. Looking for a certain song about a dog? Try Audio. Using the categories provides another way to target the exact results you want.
